McCaskill, Blunt ask for federal disaster declaration after winter storms

Missouri's U.S. Senators have sent a joint letter to President Obama urging the president to grant Governor Jay Nixon's request to declare 64 Missouri counties federal disaster areas after this winter's heavy snowfall.

Icy St. Louis side streets to be treated with salt-sand mixture

St. Louis neighborhoods will be getting some relief from ice-covered side streets resulting from last week's blizzard.

The City of St. Louis Streets Department received over 250 requests for service this morning.

Streets Director Todd Waelterman says 50 crews are out spreading a mixture of sand and salt on some of the worst areas.

Snow days pile up for local schools

It's been an above-average winter for snowfall in St. Louis, and that's wreaking havoc with the schedules for area school districts.

By state law, Missouri students have to be in class for at least 174 days and 1,044 hours. Most districts build a few extra classroom days into the schedule in order to be able to call school in case of bad weather.
