72 Percent Voter Turnout Predicted By Mo. Sec. Of State's Office

The Missouri Secretary of State's Office released their prediction today for the voter turnout percentage Nov. 6: 72 percent.

If you're wondering (we were) in the last general election in 2008, the actual Missouri voter turnout was just above 69 percent, the Secretary of State's Office says.

The forecasted number released today is a compilation of 116 local election authority turnout predictions submitted to the Secretary of State's office from around Missouri.

Activists say it’s a tricky maneuver.

Groups including the ACLU and NAACP have long supported local control of police.  But Chair of the Organization for Black Struggle, Montague Simmons, says Proposition A would undercut transparency and citizen oversight.

“The banner head that they’re using for local control, we built credibility for,” Simmons says.  “People understand it and they identify directly with citizen review.  They identify it with accountability and transparency.  Absent that, people will be buying in to something they can’t live with.”
