Illinois to begin selling lottery tickets online Sunday

Lotto officials say Illinois is set to become the first state in the nation to sell lottery tickets over the Internet. Online ticket sales launch Sunday morning.

Lotto officials are betting online ticket sales could haul in up to $118 million per year in new revenue. Lottery superintendent Michael Jones is hoping to lure hundreds of thousands of new players to a highly secure website.

Off-duty St. Louis officer shot; two men charged

Updated 2:02 p.m. March 23:

Christopher Gales and Montez Thomas, both 18, have been charged in relation to the case, according to a release from the St. Louis County Police. Their photos are above.

Both men have been charged with the following:

  • 1 count of Assault in the First Degree,
  • 1 count of Robbery in the First Degree,
  • 1 count of Burglary in the First Degree and
  • 3 counts of Armed Criminal Action.

Gales and Thomas are being held on $500,000 cash-only bonds.

East St. Louis nightclubs pitch in for more police patrols

Club Illusion is helping foot the bill for extra patrols in East St. Louis.

East St. Louis nightclubs and other local businesses are bankrolling extra weekend police patrols after a series of violent crimes.

Mayor Alvin Parks Jr. says the city needs more officers on the street but cannot afford them on its own.

“This is taking already existing officers and paying them to work this special detail," Parks said. "A detail that will be about six officers downtown and another two in the rest of the city where there might be late night activity.”
