MoDOT preparing for winter weather

Winter weather is headed to the St. Louis metropolitan area and crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation are making sure they are prepared.

MoDOT started pre-treating major routes Tuesday with salt brine. This morning trucks are out in full force monitoring the situation, ready to react when the rain, sleet and snow begin.

Snow snarls morning commute

The snow is making it difficult for morning commuters on Jan. 12, 2012.

A band of light to moderate snow has made its way to the St. Louis area this morning.

The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory remains in effect until six o’clock this evening for a variety of weather conditions, including snow, blowing snow, sleet or freezing drizzle and rain.

Jim Sieveking, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says the snow is making the morning commute difficult.
