Nixon commutes death sentence for Clay

Last week we told you that supporters of Richard Clay asked Mo. Gov. Jay Nixon to halt Clay's execution. Well, now it seems that Nixon has granted their request.

Mo. Gov. Nixon evaluated at hospital following car accident

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has been treated and released from a hospital after being involved in a traffic accident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Nixon was a passenger in a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a patrol trooper that was rear-ended Friday morning in a three-vehicle accident. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 50 in Jefferson City, just a few blocks south of the Capitol.

Supporters of Richard Clay ask Mo. Gov. Jay Nixon to halt his execution

The family of Missouri death row inmate Richard Clay and an anti-death penalty group are asking Governor Jay Nixon to halt Clay's scheduled execution next week.

Clay was sentenced to die for the 1994 shooting death of Randy Martindale in New Madrid.  But his supporters say authorities arrested, tried and convicted the wrong person.
