Workers at the Ford plant in suburban Kansas City received good news today from the automaker and Missouri's governor.

The number of full-time jobs will hold steady and the plant will make a $400 million expansion with help from the state.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has asked the president to issue a disaster declaration for areas hit by tornadoes and severe storms on Dec. 31.

Nixon on Friday requested federal individual assistance for people living in Carter, Christian, Dent, Franklin, Phelps, Polk, St. Louis, Stone and Webster counties as well as the city of St. Louis.

Five Missouri residents were killed by the severe weather.

Speaking in St. Louis on Thursday Missouri Governor Jay Nixon would not elaborate on the reasons why he commuted the death sentence of convicted murderer Richard Clay.

Clay was sentenced to death for the 1994 murder-for-hire of Randy Martindale.
