Doe Run assessing damage after early morning fire

Several Jefferson County fire departments responded to a blaze early Tuesday morning at the Doe Run Company’s primary smelter in Herculaneum.

Company officials say there were no injuries and they are now assessing damage.

6-story building burns near downtown St. Louis

St. Louis firefighters check an adjoining building during a five-alarm fire in downtown St. Louis on Dec. 8, 2011. The six story, vacant building is a complete loss as 125 firefighters fought the stubborn blaze for five hours.

Fire officials in St. Louis are trying to determine the cause of a blaze in a vacant six-story building near downtown.

The fire broke out before noon Thursday. There were no reports of injuries, though the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website reported that what was believed to be homeless people were seen fleeing the building. By early afternoon, the fire was under control.

St. Charles house fire claims fourth victim

A tragic house fire in St. Charles has claimed the life of a 4th victim. 8-year-old Quentin Gresham died early this morning, following the deaths of his father, mother and younger sister earlier this week.

As the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports, the lone survivor of the deadly blaze is 11-year-old Robert Zwilling, who escaped by jumping out a second-floor window.
